Overview

This role involves serving as a Conflicts Attorney within the Office of Legal Affairs, supporting conflict-of-interest and ethics matters tied to new business intake, client engagements, and lateral hiring initiatives. The attorney will work closely with legal and business professionals across the firm to identify, analyze, and resolve potential conflicts, while helping prepare and review key conflict and ethics documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze electronic information related to new engagements and new hires to identify, report, and address potential legal, business, and positional conflicts of interest.
  • Conduct electronic research (including Westlaw, Google, and other research tools) to identify, eliminate, clarify, and resolve conflict and ethics-related issues.
  • Analyze and resolve conflicts of interest and provide clear, concise information to firm attorneys.
  • Prepare, review, and/or analyze engagement letters, outside counsel guidelines, ethics-related disclosures, waivers, ethical screens, and disengagement letters.
  • Review the work of others in the Office of Legal Affairs and provide guidance on conflict-of-interest and ethics issues.
  • Communicate extensively with firm attorneys, business professionals, General Counsel, and Assistant General Counsel – Conflicts to facilitate identification and resolution of conflicts and other business issues.
  • Assist in the development of training and education programs for legal and non-legal staff regarding conflict-of-interest issues, client intake systems, and related methods and procedures.
  • Close client and/or matter accounts according to firm policy or as requested.

Requirements

  • JD degree and at least three years of legal experience in a law firm; an active bar license in good standing is strongly preferred.
  • At least three years of experience conducting electronic research, with familiarity with Intapp conflicts and client intake software preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Outlook, and conflicts-related programs; prior experience with Aderant is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct, with experience handling legal ethics and conflicts issues in a law firm environment.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, legal research, and writing skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to address conflicts and ethics issues effectively and diplomatically with firm attorneys and business professionals.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to work efficiently and independently across multiple projects with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with Intapp conflicts and client intake software.
  • Prior experience with Aderant.
  • Active bar license in good standing.

  • Benefit offerings and eligibility vary by location and are subject to applicable plan terms and legal requirements.
  • Pay range estimates:
    • New York City or San Francisco (physically based): $165,000 - $195,000 (annual)
    • California, New Jersey or Washington DC (physically based): $150,000 - $180,000 (annual)
    • Colorado (physically based): $145,000 - $165,000 (annual)
  • Actual pay will be determined based on skills, relevant experience, licensure/certifications, and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable employment laws.

This position may be based in either California, Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington DC, or West Virginia.
