Overview
This role supports a non-judicial foreclosure and creditors' rights practice as an Independent Contractor.
The position supports matters in North Carolina and Tennessee (with hiring across several states). Expected availability is 30–40 hours per week, with flexible scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned caseload of creditors' rights matters, including foreclosure, collections, bankruptcy, title, eviction, and related default servicing activities, from referral through resolution.
- Draft, review, and approve pleadings, motions, affidavits, notices, correspondence, and other legal documents in accordance with applicable state laws, court rules, and client requirements.
- Provide legal oversight and guidance on foreclosure proceedings, collections litigation, and related creditors' rights matters.
- Appear at hearings, mediations, conferences, trials, and other court proceedings as required, either in person or remotely, depending on jurisdiction.
- Ensure all case activity complies with applicable federal and state laws, regulatory requirements, investor guidelines, and client servicing standards.
- Review legal strategy and assess case risks, escalations, and exceptions to facilitate timely resolution of matters.
- Communicate case status, legal analysis, and recommendations to internal operations teams, firm leadership, and clients.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the firm's case management systems.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to legal workflow, compliance, and client service delivery.
Requirements
- Active law license in good standing in at least one of the covered states: New York, Pennsylvania, and/or Ohio (multi-state admission strongly preferred).
- Experience in foreclosure, creditors' rights, litigation, mortgage default servicing, collections or related practice areas preferred.
- Strong written communication and case management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a remote environment.
- Multi-state licensure is a plus.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Prior experience in creditors' rights, consumer debt collections, or civil litigation preferred; new admittees with strong litigation training will be considered.
- Working knowledge of the FDCPA and relevant state consumer protection and collections statutes.
- Comfort with high-volume caseloads and court e-filing systems.
- Strong legal research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- Independent contractor engagement (1099); not a salaried, benefits-eligible position.
- Compensation is structured as a per-case, per-hearing, or hourly rate depending on jurisdiction and caseload; details discussed during the interview process.
Location
- North Carolina and Tennessee.
- Hybrid/Remote: case preparation and client communication may be performed remotely; court appearances are conducted in the attorney's covered jurisdiction(s).
- Required equipment and system access will be provided by the firm.
