Overview

This role involves providing legal support under the supervision of senior legal counsel, focusing on research, analysis, preparation, and communication of legal issues to support operational and strategic goals within a health insurance context. The position requires knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment relevant to health insurance business operations.

Candidates must reside within driving distance of the Omaha Metro area. This is a hybrid position requiring 1-2 days per week in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze, and respond to legal inquiries from attorneys, management, officers, and employees regarding various legal areas related to health insurance operations.
  • Review, revise, and draft contracts and documents to ensure legal prudence, compliance with laws, and alignment with customer and strategic interests.
  • Analyze and interpret state and federal legislation affecting company operations.
  • Advise management on legally defensible positions, risks, and new or changing legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory environments governing company business, including but not limited to PPACA, HIPAA, ERISA, state insurance laws, and other relevant state and federal laws.
  • Manage or assist with litigation matters and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or similar role providing legal services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in health insurance law, employee benefits law, and/or litigation.

Location

  • Omaha Metro area (within driving distance).
  • Hybrid work arrangement with 1-2 days per week onsite.
