Overview

This remote-first role is primarily work-from-home with regular in-person team meetings held in the Bay Area, California. Candidates based in the Bay Area are strongly preferred to facilitate meaningful collaboration. Remote candidates must reside in one of the following 23 states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, KS, MA, MD, MN, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, TX, VA, WA, WI. Visa sponsorship or transfers (OPT or H1-B) are not available.

The organization is seeking a Corporate Counsel with a passion for commercial contracting and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, sound judgment, and experience negotiating with sophisticated counterparties in a fast-paced environment. This role also involves supporting product, engineering, privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory legal matters.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate inbound and outbound commercial contracts to support business growth.
  • Provide legal advice on a broad range of issues including product, customer experience, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and data privacy and security.
  • Support scaling initiatives impacting the commercial legal function.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, contract templates, nondisclosure agreements, terms of use, and other key legal documents.
  • Collaborate with partnerships, marketing, product, finance, and other stakeholders on key projects.
  • Manage and support additional legal matters as they arise.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and membership in at least one state bar.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house legal experience.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions balancing legal risk with business objectives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new areas of law.
  • Team-oriented mindset, ready to take on diverse projects.
  • Experience interpreting and complying with regulations across multiple jurisdictions is a plus.
  • Prior experience or knowledge of insurance regulatory law is advantageous.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $180,000 - $250,000, determined by market location and candidate experience.
