Overview

The organization is seeking an Attorney to support core legal functions across employment law, litigation, and procurement contracts. This role reports directly to the General Counsel, and on certain matters may also work closely with Senior Counsel. This position is designed to function as Corporate Counsel, with opportunities for advancement within the Legal Department.

Responsibilities

The Attorney will focus on three core areas:

Employment Law

  • Serve as lead attorney providing day-to-day advice to the People team, including guidance relating to human resources policies and processes
  • Address the organization’s interests in potential employment-law-related claims

Litigation

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice regarding potential or threatened claims and civil actions by or against the organization
  • Work alongside Senior Counsel
  • Prepare risk assessments for potential claims (whether as defendant or claimant)
  • Develop settlement options for consideration

Procurement Contracts

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice related to contracts with service providers
  • Work directly with the Procurement team to review and provide guidance on service provider contract proposals
  • For certain service providers, collaborate with Senior Counsel or the General Counsel

Additional Duties

  • Lead and advise on investigations of whistleblower-related matters
  • Advise on and collaborate on revisions to internal policies and procedures, including policies not limited to employment-law matters

Ongoing Growth

  • Over time, be trained to administer standard contracts for core areas of operations and apply expertise to improve contract administration
  • Support Sales teams as needed with questions or concerns raised by business customers related to standard contracts

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited institution and admitted to state bar in good standing
  • Minimum of 2 or more years of experience at a major law firm or corporate legal department
  • Minimum of 2 or more years of experience with human resources and employment-law matters, addressing issues arising under federal and state employment laws
  • Experience in employment-law claims or litigation
  • Experience reviewing existing and new regulations and advising the organization on adapting operations to comply with employment-law requirements
  • Some experience in general commercial litigation
  • Some experience handling employment litigation, administrative issues, and arbitration of employment claims before AAA, JAMS, or other arbitration forums
  • Experience reviewing and revising contracts, apart from employment-law matters
  • Sharp attention to detail and diligence to explain, orally and in writing, facts, circumstances, and applicable law relevant to resolution
  • Some experience counseling clients on whistleblower claims and managing investigations, including reporting requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to organize multiple assignments, and capacity to work across varying priorities
  • Independent, self-starter who can develop solutions aligned to the organization’s near- and long-term interests in related matters

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary

  • $129,000.00 – $145,000.00 base salary
  • Note: figures represent a range, and the employer takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining total compensation for the position
