Overview

An organization is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Attorney to join its corporate legal team. This role involves advising on a wide range of legal matters related to the management and protection of intellectual property assets, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter who thrives in a team environment and can manage multiple projects with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to protect, manage, and maximize the value of the organization's intellectual property assets.
  • Manage the intellectual property portfolio, including overseeing patent, copyright, and trademark filings, maintenance, and enforcement activities.
  • Communicate and manage outside counsel efficiently.
  • Provide legal counsel and support for strategic transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and collaborations, focusing on intellectual property due diligence, protection, and integration.
  • Advise on, draft, and negotiate inbound and outbound strategic technology agreements, including software development, licensing, embedded technology, SaaS, and IT professional services agreements.
  • Advise product development teams on compliance with intellectual property laws, technology agreements, and open-source software licenses.
  • Review marketing campaigns, product names, branding, collateral, and digital content to ensure proper trademark and copyright use, protection of company IP, alignment with brand standards, and accuracy of marketing claims.
  • Conduct legal research and provide advice on regulations related to intellectual property protection, ownership, registration, enforcement, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with legal department members and business teams on subject matter expertise issues.
  • Provide training on relevant legal matters to associates.
  • Perform special projects supporting the legal team’s goals and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Membership in good standing of at least one state bar; registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an intellectual property attorney at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal position.
  • Extensive knowledge of patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret law, with a strong focus on software and technology.
  • Experience advising software companies and familiarity with software development and licensing practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with pragmatic legal advice aligned with business objectives.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to manage multiple transactions and competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $137,127 to $172,873 USD, commensurate with skills, experience, certifications, and other relevant factors.

Location
