Overview
An established organization in the life sciences sector is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel specializing in Labor & Employment to join their Legal Department. This role involves providing legal analysis and counsel on global labor and employment matters, supporting compliance initiatives, and managing employment-related litigation and disputes.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal analysis and counsel on labor and employment issues worldwide, including recruitment, hiring, discipline, reorganizations, training, company policies, employee handbooks, compensation, and benefits.
- Assist with legal compliance initiatives such as policies, training, and processes related to employment and labor for the global workforce.
- Draft, negotiate, and review documents related to senior executive employment and compensation, including benefits plan documents, change-in-control agreements, and employment offer letters.
- Draft, negotiate, and review routine and complex HR-related contracts, including separation agreements.
- Prepare and conduct training sessions for HR and business partners on labor and employment issues and best practices.
- Provide counsel on employment disputes, including complaints filed with EEOC, NLRB, MCAD, and other discrimination claims.
- Recommend, advise, and enforce company policies to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international employment laws and regulations (e.g., Affirmative Action, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, EEOC, MCAD, USERRA).
- Manage outside counsel on employment litigation matters.
- Review employment, labor, and benefit issues during acquisitions and divestitures, providing advice and risk assessments.
- Serve as Legal Department representative on acquisition integration processes and Policy Management Committee as requested.
- Provide legal counsel on employment-related lawsuits and assist in developing company policies on employment legal issues.
- Monitor and analyze changes in employment laws and regulations, proactively advising management and recommending guidance.
- Establish strong partnerships with HR and business teams to provide practical labor and employment advice.
- Provide backup legal support for general corporate legal issues as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Note: This is a remote position requiring occasional domestic and international travel.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of five years of related experience, preferably combining law firm and corporate settings.
- Current license to practice law in any U.S. State Bar.
- Strong knowledge of labor and employment statutes and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $180,000 to $210,000 USD, varying based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
