Overview
This role involves providing legal support to a company focused on advancing personalized medicine through data, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and genomic testing. The legal team supports complex commercial agreements and novel legal issues at the intersection of healthcare and technology.
Location: Remote or Hybrid in Chicago
Compensation: $150,000 - $200,000
Responsibilities
- Assist with transactional work across various business lines, including drafting, editing, negotiating, advising, and collaborating on complex commercial agreements.
- Work on agreements involving healthcare providers, life sciences companies, clinical and research projects, data license and transfer agreements, strategic collaborations, laboratory services, payers, pharmaceutical companies, government entities, and others in healthcare, biotech, and life sciences.
- Address new legal issues related to artificial intelligence, large language models, intellectual property ownership, data privacy, and cutting-edge healthcare technology.
- Handle common corporate contracts such as vendor agreements.
- Support other general legal matters including intellectual property, employment and human resources, corporate governance, fundraising, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory, and international issues.
- Collaborate with internal teams including commercial, data science, medical affairs, product & engineering, finance, communications, and people teams.
- Evaluate legal risks and opportunities to facilitate business goals in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant healthcare transactional experience at an established law firm or in-house role.
- Strong familiarity with healthcare regulatory environment, including HIPAA, Medicare and Medicaid payment issues, Stark regulation, fraud and abuse laws, and data privacy regulations.
- Current bar membership in at least one state.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent judgment with the ability to evaluate and communicate legal risks.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Collaborative team player.
