Overview

A financial technology organization is seeking a Commercial Legal Counsel to join their Legal, Compliance, and Public Affairs team. This team supports the company’s growth by providing legal, compliance, and policy guidance across products and partnerships. The Commercial Legal Counsel will focus on structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex global commercial agreements related to revenue-generating contracts and strategic partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Structure, draft, negotiate, and review a broad range of global commercial agreements, including complex and novel contracts
  • Provide strategic and legal advice to cross-functional teams such as sales, product, finance, tax, customer operations, and risk
  • Lead or participate in projects to improve internal processes and increase the efficiency and scalability of the Commercial Legal team
  • Train and educate internal business partners on legal matters
  • Manage and resolve legal issues arising from domestic and international commercial relationships
  • Develop and improve templates for global revenue-generating commercial agreements
  • Build collaborative working relationships with teams across the U.S. and internationally

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Current membership in good standing of the bar in at least one U.S. state
  • Minimum 5 years of experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, preferably revenue-generating agreements
  • Experience in both law firm and in-house legal environments is a plus
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deals under tight deadlines
  • Excellent judgment and ability to make pragmatic, business-focused decisions in ambiguous situations
  • Experience drafting and negotiating data privacy terms, including CCPA, GLBA, and GDPR contract provisions
  • Clear and concise communication skills for effective collaboration and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced, high-growth environment and eagerness to learn
  • Strong work ethic, sense of ownership, accountability, and proactive approach
  • Personal qualities of humility, integrity, and a sense of humor

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range for select U.S. states (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $185,000 - $245,000 per year
  • Base salary range for all other U.S. states: $164,000 - $224,000 per year

Location

  • Remote-first position with flexibility to work from almost anywhere within the country of employment
  • Some roles may require occasional work from an assigned office
