Overview
A financial technology organization is seeking an experienced Commercial Legal Counsel to join their Commercial Legal (Revenue) team. This role focuses on structuring, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of global commercial agreements related to financial and technology products and services. The position involves advising sales, partnerships, and merchant success teams while navigating complex regulatory environments.
Responsibilities
- Structure, draft, negotiate, and review complex and novel global commercial agreements
- Provide strategic and legal advice to cross-functional teams including sales, product, finance, tax, customer operations, and risk
- Lead or participate in projects to improve internal legal processes and enhance team efficiency and scalability
- Train and educate internal business partners on legal matters
- Manage and resolve legal issues arising from domestic and international commercial relationships
- Develop and improve templates for global revenue-generating commercial contracts
- Build collaborative working relationships with teams across the U.S. and internationally
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Current membership in good standing of the bar in at least one U.S. state
- Minimum 5 years of experience in complex commercial contract drafting and negotiation, preferably involving revenue-generating contracts
- Prior experience in-house and/or at a law firm is a plus
- Strong project management skills with the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform under pressure
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent deals with tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality work
- Excellent judgment and ability to make timely, pragmatic, business-focused decisions in ambiguous situations
- Strong work ethic, ownership mentality, accountability, and proactive approach
- Experience drafting and negotiating data privacy terms, including CCPA, GLBA, and GDPR
- Clear and concise communication skills for effective collaboration and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Grade: M
- Equity Grade: 6
- Base salary range for California, Washington, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut: $185,000 - $245,000 per year
- Base salary range for all other U.S. states: $164,000 - $224,000 per year

- This is a remote-first position within the United States
- Employees may work from almost anywhere within their country of employment
