Overview
A financial technology organization is seeking an experienced Commercial Legal Counsel to join their Legal, Compliance, and Public Affairs team. This team supports the company’s growth by providing legal, compliance, and policy guidance across multiple disciplines to enable the delivery of honest financial products.
Responsibilities
- Structure, draft, negotiate, and review a wide range of global commercial agreements, including complex and novel contracts
- Provide strategic and legal advice to cross-functional teams such as sales, product, finance, tax, customer operations, and risk
- Lead or participate in initiatives to improve internal processes and enhance the efficiency and scalability of the Commercial Legal team
- Train and educate internal business partners on legal matters
- Manage and resolve legal issues arising from existing domestic and international commercial relationships
- Develop and improve templates for global revenue-generating commercial agreements
- Build collaborative working relationships with teams across the U.S. and internationally
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Current member in good standing of the bar in at least one U.S. state
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in complex commercial contract drafting and negotiation, preferably involving revenue-generating contracts
- Prior experience in-house and/or at a law firm is a plus
- Strong project management skills with the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform under pressure
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent deals with tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality work
- Excellent judgment and ability to make timely, pragmatic, business-focused decisions in ambiguous situations
- Strong work ethic, ownership mentality, accountability, and proactive approach
- Experience drafting and negotiating data privacy terms, including CCPA, GLBA, and GDPR contract provisions
- Clear and concise communication skills for effective collaboration and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range for select U.S. states (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $185,000 - $245,000 per year
- Base salary range for all other U.S. states: $164,000 - $224,000 per year

- This is a remote-first position within the United States
