Overview
A financial technology organization is seeking an experienced Commercial Legal Counsel to join their Commercial Legal (Revenue) team. This role focuses on structuring, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of global commercial agreements related to financial and technology products and services. The position supports sales, partnerships, and merchant success teams by providing strategic legal advice and managing complex commercial transactions within a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Structure, draft, negotiate, and review complex and novel global commercial agreements
- Provide strategic and legal advice to cross-functional teams including sales, product, finance, tax, customer operations, and risk
- Lead or participate in projects to improve internal legal processes and enhance team efficiency and scalability
- Train and educate internal business partners on legal matters
- Manage and resolve legal issues arising from domestic and international commercial relationships
- Develop and improve templates for global revenue-generating commercial agreements
- Build collaborative working relationships with teams across the U.S. and internationally
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Current member in good standing of the bar in at least one U.S. state
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in complex commercial drafting and negotiation, preferably involving revenue-generating contracts
- Experience in both in-house and law firm environments is a plus
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deals under tight deadlines
- Excellent judgment and ability to make pragmatic, business-focused decisions in ambiguous situations
- Proactive work ethic with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Experience drafting and negotiating data privacy terms, including CCPA, GLBA, and GDPR
- Clear and concise communication skills for effective collaboration and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Grade: M
- Equity Grade: 6
- Base salary range for select U.S. states (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $180,000 - $230,000 per year
- Base salary range for other U.S. states: $160,000 - $210,000 per year

Location
This is a remote-first position with flexibility to work from almost anywhere within the country of employment. Some roles may require occasional presence at an assigned office depending on job responsibilities.
