Overview

The organization is seeking Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and to provide first-party insurance defense. This position is with Staff Counsel and is located in San Antonio, Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
  • Provide opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
  • Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including:
    • Depositions/examinations before trial
    • Examinations under oath
    • Defense of matters assigned through trial or dispositive hearings, as applicable

Requirements

  • 7-9+ years in related field litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury REQUIRED
  • Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED
  • Admission to the Texas Bar REQUIRED
  • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
  • Ability to travel as required, including but not limited to attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
  • Ability to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner understandable to customers, clients, co-workers, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and demonstrate strong organization/priority-setting and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Civil litigation experience
  • Insurance defense-related litigation experience
  • Ability to communicate professionally in person, via telephone, and in written correspondence

Location

Remote. Must be within commutable distance from the San Antonio site location.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Salary: $118,900.00 - $185,525.00
  • The annual salary range is a general guideline; factors considered may include scope and responsibilities of the role, experience, education and training, work location, and market/business considerations.
