Overview

A US-based law firm is seeking a Criminal Defense Paralegal to join its team for a remote position. This role supports attorneys managing a diverse range of criminal defense cases, with responsibilities spanning trial preparation, legal research, evidence review, drafting, and case management.

Responsibilities

Assist attorneys with trial preparation by organizing case files and conducting in-depth legal research.
Draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, and client correspondence related to criminal defense matters.
Review and summarize evidence such as police reports and witness statements to support case strategies.
Maintain an organized case management system to ensure documentation is properly filed and easily accessible.
Communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, and experts to streamline case progress.
Support trial preparation by coordinating exhibits and organizing materials.
Conduct legal research as needed to support case development and strategic planning.
Assist with administrative tasks including billing and case management duties when required.

Requirements

Associate's degree or equivalent experience within a legal setting.
2–3 years of experience as a paralegal; criminal defense experience is highly desirable.
Comprehensive understanding of criminal law and pertinent legal principles.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Fluency in English is required.
Familiarity with US criminal law on both state and federal levels.
Minimum of one year of experience in a law office or legal environment.
Solid writing and drafting skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
