Overview

A leading energy storage developer with a portfolio exceeding 10 GW across more than 25 states is seeking a Deputy General Counsel specializing in Commercial Real Estate. This role supports the legal needs of the Real Estate Team within the Development Department and contributes broadly to the organization’s legal efforts related to energy storage projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and guidance to the Real Estate Team and broader organization under the supervision of the General Counsel
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of real property agreements including option to purchase, option to lease, purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, crossing consents, amendments, and others
  • Assist in resolving complex title and survey issues
  • Support site acquisition closings
  • Represent real estate interests in project financings and tax equity investments alongside Finance and Real Estate Teams
  • Lead, mentor, and empower the Counsel, Real Estate
  • Select, engage, and oversee local and external counsel

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required
  • 2-3 years of experience at a top-tier law firm in a commercial real estate practice group
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting real estate efforts for utility-scale renewable energy development
  • Extensive experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on real property agreements
  • Strong expertise in title and survey review, risk identification, and resolution
  • Experience negotiating title insurance policies, particularly energy title policies for renewable energy or energy storage projects
  • Proven track record supporting real estate matters in complex project financings
  • Deep experience advising on real estate aspects of complex mergers and acquisitions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams
  • Strong presentation, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation starting at $275,000, with potential variation based on experience, skills, qualifications, and geographic labor market
