Overview

A senior living organization with nearly 30 years of experience and a growing presence across the Northeast is seeking a Deputy General Counsel Regulatory. The organization operates multiple communities offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, and continuing care retirement options. With significant assets under management and strong industry growth, the role supports legal and regulatory compliance in a dynamic sector.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality legal advice on matters affecting the organization.
  • Establish risk and compliance standards to protect the organization while enabling strategic execution.
  • Identify and assess legal risks and recommend risk reduction strategies.
  • Oversee state regulatory compliance, including reviewing audits, responding to follow-ups, and maintaining regulatory communications.
  • Supervise public policy activities benefiting the organization.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations relevant to the organization.
  • Advise internal groups on legal consequences of contemplated actions.
  • Manage legal aspects of material incidents and lead investigations.
  • Review and approve legal documents.
  • Respond to legal claims and inquiries.
  • Conduct legal analysis related to organizational operations.
  • Ensure operations comply with legislated boundaries, including laws applicable to assisted living communities.
  • Manage the work of Senior Corporate Regulatory Counsel, Legal Assistant, and administrative support.
  • Provide strategic leadership and address key challenges.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS).
  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Active state bar licensure.
  • 8-10+ years of broad corporate legal experience in good standing.
  • Experience representing a company in senior living or a closely related sector is strongly preferred.
  • Proven record of providing substantive legal advice to senior management and business leaders.
  • Collaborative working style with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Experience advising both business operations and infrastructure functions.

  • In-depth legal and regulatory knowledge of assisted living communities, continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), and long-term care providers.
  • Litigation experience.
  • Strong negotiation and contract law skills.
  • Public policy expertise.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to balance customer needs with business goals.
  • Effective both as a team leader and individual contributor.
  • Innovative and able to drive creative approaches.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with senior management.
  • Experience negotiating with government agencies.

Location

This is a Home Office position within the senior living organization’s corporate structure.
