Overview

A leading AI-forward, publicly traded company is seeking a Director of Strategic Partnerships Legal to join their Commercial Legal team. This role is central to supporting the organization's ecosystem and strategic partnerships, which are key to growth and delivering value to customers. The position involves leading the legal function for strategic alliances, structuring and negotiating complex partnership agreements, and building scalable legal infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary legal partner for the Strategic Alliances team, managing the full lifecycle of complex strategic partnership agreements from term sheet to execution.
  • Provide advice on complex commercial deal structures to ensure they are both commercially effective and legally sound.
  • Collaborate with other Legal teams to create reusable templates and workflows that streamline partnership legal work and enable business teams to self-serve on standard issues.
  • Coordinate cross-team legal efforts on deals and establish clear responsibility models to reduce duplicated legal involvement.
  • Develop go-to-market legal materials for strategic partnerships, including playbooks, FAQs, standard positions, and communication templates to support partner marketing and business teams.
  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments affecting the partner ecosystem, such as data sharing, marketplace compliance, and international partnership regulations, and proactively advise the business.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant legal experience in-house, at a law firm, or both, with significant expertise in structuring and negotiating complex commercial partnership and alliance agreements.
  • Proven experience as the primary legal partner for a strategic alliances or business development team, including establishing the legal function from inception.
  • Deep understanding of technology partnership deal structures.
  • Ability to independently manage complex deals end-to-end without constant escalation.
  • Experience advising business teams building new functions and providing proactive deal support.
  • Strong commercial orientation with the ability to align legal positions to enable business value.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools in legal practice to improve efficiency and quality of legal support.
  • Working knowledge of AI and privacy regulatory landscapes, including data protection frameworks and emerging AI governance requirements, with the ability to translate legal risks into practical guidance.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with marketplace, app store, or developer ecosystem programs.
  • Familiarity with data sharing, API usage, and integration issues in technology partnerships.
  • Experience collaborating with product, privacy, or security legal teams on partnerships with significant technical components.
  • Comfort building scalable legal infrastructure.
  • Experience at a SaaS or technology company operating a large-scale partner or ecosystem business.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual cash compensation range: $245,410 to $392,700 USD, including base salary, on-target commission (if applicable), and annual bonus targets.
  • Eligibility for equity participation through restricted stock units (RSUs) may be available for some roles.
  • Some roles may be eligible for overtime pay.
