Overview
This role supports product innovation by providing legal guidance for emerging and first-impression issues, with a focus on AI/ML, data governance, intellectual property, and platform architectures.
The organization can hire in any country where it has a legal entity, and employees may choose to work in an office, from home, or a combination of both.
Responsibilities
- Advise on emerging legal and regulatory issues affecting product and engineering teams, with particular focus on AI/ML technologies, data governance, intellectual property, and platform architectures.
- Provide generalist product counseling across evolving products, technical stacks, and subject areas as business priorities change.
- Create an “AI era” playbook with cross-functional partners by designing repeatable frameworks, launch checklists, and scalable legal guardrails that help R&D teams ship AI features with velocity and confidence.
- Act as the primary legal partner and front door for product initiatives, collaborating with Legal SMEs across Privacy, IP, Commercial, and Regulatory to deliver cohesive, business-first guidance.
- Help mature the Product Counsel function by bringing new ideas, experimenting with ways of working, and leveraging modern technology and async tools to scale legal impact.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of legal experience counseling software products, ideally in B2B Enterprise SaaS, including experience supporting fast-moving Product and Engineering teams.
- Required: Juris Doctor and a license to practice law in your jurisdiction.
- Experience in both a law firm and in-house legal settings.
- Strong generalist product counseling skills, with the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar product surfaces, technical architectures, and business models.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and novel issues, including evaluating emerging AI, data, IP, regulatory, and platform questions where there may not be a clear playbook.
- Demonstrated ability to dive into complex technical architectures, synthesize inputs across multiple legal disciplines, and adapt quickly to unfamiliar product surfaces.
- Strong writing and clarity skills suited to an async environment, including a “simplifier” approach (avoid legalese for product teams).
- Enthusiasm for building legal processes and artifacts from scratch, and comfort collaborating asynchronously using modern team tooling.

- Base pay will be set within a geographic range based on skills, knowledge, and experience.
- This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

Pay Ranges (United States)
For the United States, there are three geographic pay zones. Current base pay ranges for new hires:
- Zone A: $229,500 - $299,625
- Zone B: $206,550 - $269,663
- Zone C: $190,485 - $248,689

- Employees may work in an office, from home, or a combination of both.
