Overview
This role supports product and engineering teams by providing legal guidance on emerging, first-impression legal and regulatory issues—especially in areas involving AI/ML, data governance, intellectual property, and platform architectures.

Responsibilities
- Navigate emerging legal and regulatory issues: Counsel product and engineering teams on novel legal and regulatory questions, with emphasis on AI/ML technologies, data governance, intellectual property, and platform architectures.
- Apply generalist product counseling across domains: Pivot comfortably across products, technical stacks, and subject areas as business priorities evolve.
- Develop an “AI era” operating playbook: Partner with cross-functional teams to design repeatable frameworks, launch checklists, and scalable legal guardrails that enable R&D teams to ship AI features with velocity and confidence.
- Serve as a legal hub for product initiatives: Act as the primary legal partner and “front door” for product initiatives, collaborating closely with Legal SMEs (Privacy, IP, Commercial, Regulatory) to deliver cohesive, business-first guidance.
- Improve team operating practices: Help mature the growing Product Counsel function through fresh ideas, experimentation with new ways of working, and use of modern technology and async tools to scale impact.
Requirements
- 8+ years of legal experience counseling software products, ideally in the B2B Enterprise SaaS space, including experience supporting fast-moving Product and Engineering teams.
- Juris Doctor and a license to practice law in your jurisdiction.
- Experience in both law firm and in-house legal environments.
- Strong generalist product counseling skills, including the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar product surfaces, technical architectures, and business models.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and novel issues, including evaluating emerging AI, data, IP, regulatory, and platform questions where there may be no clear playbook.
- Demonstrated agility to dive into complex technical architectures, synthesize inputs across multiple legal disciplines, and adapt quickly to unfamiliar product surfaces.
- A simplifier skillset (communicate clearly for Product teams), strong writing skills for an async environment, and comfort using technology to perform the work.
- Enthusiasm for building processes and artifacts from scratch, and fluency with asynchronous collaboration using modern team tooling.

Compensation & Benefits
Pay ranges (United States)
This role has three geographic pay zones in the United States. Current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
- Zone A: $229,500 - $299,625
- Zone B: $206,550 - $269,663
- Zone C: $190,485 - $248,689
Base pay is set within the applicable range based on each candidate’s skills, knowledge, and experience. Please confirm the applicable pay zone for your specific location with your recruiter.
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
