Overview

This role involves serving as an Early Career Trial Attorney responsible for defending insured clients and the organization in bodily injury and property damage lawsuits. The position includes managing litigation processes such as arbitrations, mediations, and occasional trials, as well as providing legal counsel to business clients and coordinating with legal teams. Staying informed on new laws and regulations to adapt legal strategies is a key component.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of insurance defense litigation from case inception through verdict, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions.
  • Collect and organize documents, evidence, and conduct legal research to prepare for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
  • Conduct legal research on applicable laws, regulations, and precedents; prepare summaries and reports.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
  • Interview clients and witnesses; prepare summaries of statements and maintain communication records.
  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings; represent the organization or clients in routine matters as needed.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and assist in updating the legal team on potential impacts.
  • Participate in training and mentorship programs to develop legal skills and handle more complex legal work.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree and active membership in good standing with the Ohio State Bar.
  • Successful completion of courses in legal research, writing, and analysis.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process.
  • Effective communication skills for client interaction, preparing summaries, and maintaining records.
  • Knowledge of legal ethics and professional conduct standards.
  • Basic negotiation skills for client interactions and settlement discussions.
  • Must be within commutable distance to courthouses in greater Cleveland, Northwest Ohio, Northeast Ohio, and Toledo, Ohio.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $70,100.00 to $121,475.00, based on experience and qualifications.

Location

This position requires commuting to courthouses throughout the greater Cleveland, Northwest Ohio, Northeast Ohio, and Toledo areas.
