Overview
An education technology (EdTech) company is seeking an experienced EdTech attorney to provide part-time, remote in-house legal counsel. The role involves advising on the complex and evolving regulatory environment affecting EdTech products and services, with a focus on state laws and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and guidance on state regulatory requirements impacting EdTech companies and their products
- Research, monitor, and interpret evolving state legislative and regulatory developments
- Deliver clear, business-oriented legal counsel to internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams
- Support compliance efforts and risk management related to EdTech regulations
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Active and in-good-standing law license in the candidate’s state of residence
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience advising on state laws and regulatory requirements affecting EdTech companies or similar sectors
- Experience researching and monitoring evolving state legislative and regulatory requirements
- Proven ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
- Strong academic credentials and outstanding professional references
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior in-house legal experience with an EdTech, technology, education, or similarly regulated company
- Experience working with publicly held companies

- Role Type: Contract, part-time, as-needed in-house counsel

Compensation & Benefits
- Annualized pay range (full-time equivalent): $185,000 to $250,000
- Contract pay rates depend on experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market factors, and candidate preferences
