Overview

This role is an ongoing, flexible engagement with an AI-enabled legal services firm supporting early-stage startups. The position is for fractional startup attorneys with 5+ years of experience in Emerging Companies and Venture Capital (EC/VC) work.

You will serve as outside counsel to founders and early-stage companies, advising on corporate, governance, and commercial matters that arise as businesses grow.

Responsibilities

  • Advise founders and early-stage companies on general corporate matters across the startup lifecycle
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements for startup clients
  • Support corporate governance and the day-to-day legal needs of growing companies
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, working directly with clients to provide practical, commercially minded guidance
  • Help shape how the firm’s AI-enabled platform delivers legal services as it scales

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience advising startups and emerging companies
  • EC/VC experience and generalist experience across many matter types
  • Interest in legal technology and in how AI can improve the delivery of legal services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the startup practice of a firm such as Cooley, Goodwin, Fenwick, Latham & Watkins
  • Technology transactions experience
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: 100–150/hr (flexible based on experience)
  • Malpractice coverage: Attorneys are added to the firm’s malpractice insurance
  • Employment/engagement preference: Engagement as a W-2 employee through a workforce solutions company is preferred; direct contractor engagements are also acceptable.

Location & Schedule

  • Location: Remote; any time zone
  • Schedule: Client is open to part time and full time availability
  • Duration: Ongoing, starting as soon as possible
