Overview
A partner organization is seeking an Employment Counsel based in the United States to serve as a key legal advisor for a fast-growing global company. This role involves providing strategic counsel on a wide range of employment law matters across multiple jurisdictions, including the U.S., Europe, and APAC. The position supports People, HR, Talent Acquisition, and executive leadership teams in shaping policies and decisions affecting a distributed workforce within a dynamic, high-growth technology environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice on employment matters such as hiring, performance management, employee relations, accommodations, compensation, disciplinary actions, leaves of absence, and terminations.
- Advise on workforce planning initiatives including reorganizations, restructures, and reductions in force, ensuring legal compliance and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate with People and HR teams to develop, implement, and refine employment policies, procedures, and scalable best practices.
- Monitor and interpret employment law developments across the U.S., Europe, and APAC to ensure proactive compliance and risk mitigation.
- Lead or support internal workplace investigations related to employee complaints, misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and other issues, ensuring fair and timely resolution.
- Manage employment disputes, agency claims, and litigation in partnership with external counsel, developing strategies to mitigate legal and operational risks.
- Review, draft, and negotiate employment-related agreements including offer letters, severance agreements, consulting arrangements, and restrictive covenant agreements.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and international expansion activities from an employment law and workforce integration perspective.
- Provide practical training and guidance to managers, HR teams, and leadership on employment law and compliance best practices.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
- Minimum of 6 years of in-house employment law experience, preferably within a high-growth technology or multinational organization.
- Deep expertise in U.S. employment law, including federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks.
- Experience advising on European employment law matters; exposure to APAC employment frameworks is preferred.
- Strong background in conducting workplace investigations and managing employment-related disputes or litigation.
- Experience supporting cross-border employment issues such as remote work, international hiring, mobility, and employee transfers.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills with the ability to provide clear, business-oriented legal advice.
- Strong judgment, discretion, and stakeholder management skills in complex, fast-paced environments.
- Ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities while enabling business growth and scalability.
