Overview

An organization specializing in cloud security is seeking an experienced Employment Law Counsel to join their global Employment Law Team. This role focuses on providing legal advice and guidance on a wide range of labor and employment-related issues primarily in Germany and other EMEA territories as the business expands.

Location

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert, practical legal advice to internal stakeholders on global labor law and employment issues including hiring, performance management, terminations, and benefits.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, severance agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other employment-related contracts.
  • Develop, draft, and implement company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations.
  • Advise on employee disciplinary actions, investigations, and grievances, ensuring timely and fair treatment.
  • Collaborate with HR to address employee relations issues, mitigate risks, and support cross-functional projects.
  • Work with internal legal counsels, finance teams, and business leaders on projects such as incentive plans, intellectual property protection, organizational restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A), including due diligence and integration.
  • Stay current on changes in labor and employment laws and regulations.
  • Oversee proceedings and litigation including mediations, administrative charges, demand letters, and employment-related government audits.
  • Advise on labor and employment matters in new markets, particularly within the EMEA region, managing and cooperating with external counsels.
  • Manage relationships with external counsels in EMEA and other territories as needed.

Requirements

  • Licensed attorney in Germany.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an internal legal counsel in a high-tech or technology company, focusing on labor and employment law.
  • Strong knowledge of labor law and related areas such as contract, commercial, and data protection/privacy law, with practical experience in an international business context.
  • Experience handling employment-related litigation, including discrimination claims and unfair or unlawful dismissal.
  • Familiarity with M&A transactions and their employment law implications.
  • Experience advising on employment matters in international markets, especially in the EMEA region.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with sound judgment in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to thrive in a hyper-growth environment, demonstrating urgency and flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Provide flexible and pragmatic legal advice balancing compliance with business requirements.
  • Highly self-motivated, able to work independently and take full accountability for legal processes with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the legal right to work in Germany without visa sponsorship; this role does not offer visa sponsorship.
