Overview

An ERISA attorney is sought to provide technical regulatory and compliance services related to retirement and employee benefit plans, including defined benefit (DB), defined contribution (DC), and health & welfare (H&W) plans. This role involves working alongside consultants to deliver comprehensive retirement and benefit consulting for both qualified and nonqualified plans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide plan design advice and recommendations.
  • Review and draft plan documents, amendments, summary plan descriptions (SPDs), and other communications.
  • Prepare governmental filings and corrections.
  • Advise on mergers and acquisitions.
  • Provide guidance on nondiscrimination testing.
  • Conduct fiduciary training and advise on plan governance procedures.
  • Support business development efforts and serve as a resource to the sales team.
  • Facilitate communication and consistency of processes across practice areas to minimize errors and limit errors and omissions exposure.
  • Review work products from peers and paralegals.
  • Analyze current legal and technical developments and conduct necessary legal research.
  • Prepare client communications and marketing/business materials.
  • Review and prepare service agreements and contracts.
  • Supervise legal support staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in good standing with a state bar; ERISA attorney required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in legal research, document review, and extensive knowledge of regulations from the Department of Labor (DOL), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
  • Ability to interpret and convey complex information clearly to clients and prospects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving while adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to stay organized and focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Personable and credible with demonstrated teamwork and collaboration.
