Overview
A family law firm based in Fairfax, VA, is seeking an experienced Family Law Associate to join their team. This role focuses on handling high-impact, low-conflict family law cases with an emphasis on negotiation, client well-being, and attorney sustainability. The firm supports remote work but requires candidates to be located in Northern Virginia for in-person court appearances as needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead client consultations with empathy and clarity, understanding and prioritizing client needs and goals.
- Develop and execute strategic case plans focused on negotiation and resolution to minimize conflict.
- Collaborate with paralegals and administrative staff to ensure seamless case management and client communication.
- Maintain proactive communication with opposing counsel to foster a cooperative environment.
- Prepare and review legal documents accurately and aligned with client objectives.
- Represent clients in court proceedings when necessary, advocating professionally and effectively.
- Stay updated on family law developments and integrate new knowledge into practice.
Requirements
- Must be an active member of the Virginia State Bar in good standing.
- Minimum of 3 years of Virginia family law experience.
- Experience handling divorce, custody, visitation, support, enforcement, and modifications to existing orders.
- Strong negotiation and settlement skills with a philosophy that prioritizes court as a last resort.
- Excellent legal research, drafting, and written communication skills.
- Clear and confident verbal communication with clients and opposing counsel.
- Client-centered approach guiding clients toward long-term beneficial decisions.
- Ability to thrive in a remote work environment with strong self-organization and discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mediation training or collaborative law certification is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $140,000 - $205,000 annually, with a flexible salary structure allowing choice of plan.
