Overview
This position supports the Energy Management and Commodities Trading team. The role provides legal advice and support on a range of legal matters, including:
- Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) drafting and negotiations
- ISDA drafting and negotiations
- Gas trading agreements
- Know Your Customer (KYC) processes
- General commercial contract negotiations
- Regulatory investigation and claim management
The position reports to and will frequently interact with the Vice President of Legal and Corporate Affairs (United States and Canada) and the Global Legal Head of Power Purchase Agreements Legal Affairs. Work includes frequent collaboration with senior executives and other members of the trading team.
Responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate Power Purchase Agreements.
- Draft and negotiate REC agreements.
- Draft and negotiate ISDA agreements.
- Structure, draft, and negotiate other complex and time-sensitive commercial transactions.
- Facilitate, revise, and counsel on the company’s Know Your Customer (KYC) process.
- Incorporate, manage, and update corporate entities, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, case law, and relevant bylaws.
- Support, advise, and lead the company through federal, state, and local permitting processes.
- Handle litigation related to the business line, including regulatory claims and investigations.
- Advise management and employees on legal matters such as corporate law, compliance law, civil law (with a focus on matters related to energy trading), litigation, insurance, development, and finance; interpret and explain legal rules, principles, and requirements.
- Develop and implement preventive legal strategies aligned with the Legal Department’s strategic scope to minimize litigation, third-party disputes, and other potential liability.
- Travel nationally and internationally on occasion.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school required.
- At least 5 years of legal experience practicing in transactions, with an emphasis on energy trading.
- General knowledge and understanding of FERC and RTO rules and requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and commercial legal advice and recommendations.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to present clear and practical legal positions.
- Excellent business judgment.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Ability to influence others and gain support for ideas.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships across the organization.

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $198,000.00 to $297,000.00 annually.
- Base pay offer will be based on job-related knowledge, skills, work experience, education, and internal equity.

Location
This role supports operations across the United States and Canada and involves occasional national and international travel.
