General Counsel

Overview

A remote, global opportunity is available for a General Counsel with significant overlap in EMEA time zones. This role offers a total annual package of up to USD $246,800, including a base salary up to $220,000 plus up to 10% monthly performance bonus, along with comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities

• Lead the in-house legal function across three key areas: direct-to-consumer (DTC) e-commerce regulatory compliance, family office capital deployment into hedge funds, and cross-border legal structuring across multiple international jurisdictions.
• Report directly to the CEO and manage relationships with outside counsel.
• Own critical legal domains including FTC compliance, consumer protection, fund subscriptions, custody protocols, and international asset structuring.
• Conduct monthly legal exposure audits and quarterly compliance sweeps across consumer-facing operations.
• Negotiate limited partner (LP) terms and review fund documentation.
• Proactively identify material legal risks without assignment.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 5 to 10 years of legal experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house roles.
• Proven ability to manage multiple outside counsel relationships.
• Comfortable working autonomously with minimal oversight.
• Proficiency in AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) for legal research, drafting, and risk identification; this will be assessed during the interview.
• Demonstrated track record of proactively identifying unassigned legal risks.
• Experience working across multiple international jurisdictions and coordinating cross-border legal matters.
• Strong independent judgment and initiative.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in corporate or commercial law at mid-market or large law firms.
• Experience with fund finance, LP agreements, or NAV-based lending.
• Familiarity with consumer protection laws (FTC and state-level statutes) and DTC e-commerce regulatory environment.
• Experience supporting corporate transactions and due diligence.
• Exposure to high-net-worth or family office clients.
