Overview

A remote, global opportunity is available for a General Counsel with significant overlap with EMEA time zones. This role offers a total annual package of up to USD $246,800, including a base salary up to $220,000 plus up to 10% monthly performance bonus, along with comprehensive benefits.

The General Counsel will lead the in-house legal function across three key areas: a top direct-to-consumer e-commerce brand, a family office investing in hedge funds, and cross-border legal structuring across multiple international jurisdictions. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role involves managing outside counsel relationships and owning critical legal domains including FTC compliance, consumer protection, fund subscriptions, custody protocols, and international asset structuring.

Responsibilities

  • Lead legal oversight for three distinct domains: DTC e-commerce regulatory compliance, hedge fund subscription and custody documentation, and multi-jurisdictional legal structuring.
  • Manage outside counsel relationships across assigned areas.
  • Conduct monthly legal exposure audits and deliver reports directly to the CEO.
  • Run quarterly compliance sweeps across all consumer-facing operations.
  • Negotiate limited partner (LP) terms and review fund documentation.
  • Identify material legal risks proactively without assignment.
  • Operate with high autonomy and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5 to 10 years of legal experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house roles.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple outside counsel relationships simultaneously.
  • Experience working across multiple international jurisdictions and coordinating cross-border legal matters.
  • Demonstrated proactive identification of legal risks.
  • Fluency in AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) for legal research, drafting, and risk identification; proficiency will be assessed during the interview.
  • Comfort operating with minimal oversight.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in corporate or commercial law at a mid-market or large law firm prior to in-house transition.
  • Exposure to fund finance, limited partner agreements, or NAV-based lending.
  • Familiarity with consumer protection laws including FTC regulations and state statutes.
  • Experience supporting corporate transactions or due diligence.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth or family office clients.
