Overview
A growing company specializing in live events, sports, endurance racing, bookings, and destinations is seeking a Head of Legal to lead its legal function. The organization has served over 12 million consumers and facilitated more than $1 billion in enhanced experiences through its platform. This is a fully remote, high-impact role suited for a pragmatic, hands-on attorney who wants to be an integral part of the broader business team.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal point of contact for all departments including Product, Sales, Customer Success, and Finance.
- Manage contract lifecycle end-to-end: drafting, redlining, negotiating commercial, partner, and vendor agreements.
- Review incoming and outgoing agreements to identify risks and ensure alignment with company policies.
- Oversee corporate governance including managing board meeting preparation, resolutions, consents, minutes, and act as Corporate Secretary.
- Supervise lobbying registrations, disclosures, and compliance across relevant states and jurisdictions.
- Develop scalable legal processes, templates, and playbooks that address business needs and encourage team collaboration.
Requirements
- 5 to 15 years of legal experience in-house and/or at a law firm, with increasing responsibility over commercial and corporate matters.
- Strong skills in contract drafting, review, and negotiation for commercial, partnership, and vendor agreements.
- Ability to handle a wide range of internal legal inquiries and determine when to involve outside counsel.
- High ownership mentality and resourcefulness; motivated to work closely with the broader business team.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active bar license in good standing.
- This is a remote position; occasional travel to company hubs in Phoenix, San Francisco, Denver, Los Angeles, Austin, or Chicago may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting corporate governance and board processes, including serving as or alongside a corporate secretary.
- Familiarity with lobbying registration and disclosure requirements or ability to quickly learn these.
- Prior experience as an in-house generalist at a high-growth startup.
- Experience in ecommerce or subscription internet businesses is a plus.
