Overview
This role is for the Head of Privacy and Lead Privacy Lawyer at a leading real-time location platform company. The position reports directly to the General Counsel and involves advising internal teams and key customers on privacy issues related to product development, data use, and compliance with data protection laws.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead legal contact for privacy and security throughout the product development lifecycle, partnering with policy, engineering, product management, and information security teams.
- Review new products and features to ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations.
- Advise on legal issues related to the management and use of data collected and processed by the company's products and services.
- Draft and review Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), data privacy and security provisions in customer contracts, and vendor questionnaires/RFPs.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to embed privacy-by-design principles, including minimizing and pseudonymizing personal data.
- Improve privacy and data security compliance programs, including GDPR and CCPA.
- Conduct general and role-specific privacy training.
- Provide legal expertise on subprocessor activities, data processing, and data transfers.
- Monitor and advise on regulatory and industry developments in privacy and security laws.
- Develop customer-facing collateral such as notes, notices, disclosures, and privacy data sheets to communicate privacy impacts and data transfer risks.
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of practicing attorney experience, including at least 2 years at a top-tier law firm and 5 years in-house at a technology company focusing on privacy.
- At least one of the following:
- Degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a similar technical field.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in software patent litigation or prosecution at a top-tier firm.
- Extensive experience working with APIs and SDKs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong drafting abilities.
- Practical, customer-centric negotiation style with the ability to balance legal risks and business strategy.
- JD degree from a top-tier law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- Willingness to work collaboratively in a flat organizational structure and handle a variety of issues.
- Ability to work remotely within the U.S., preferably in the Pacific time zone.
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in engineering or computer science is a plus.
- Experience working directly with SDKs and APIs.
- Interest in and ability to become deeply familiar with the company’s technology and products.
Compensation & Benefits
- Total annual cash compensation ranges from $220,000 to $300,000.
- Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, potential impact, role scope, market demands, and work location.

- Remote work within the United States is supported.
- Preference for candidates located in the Pacific time zone.
