Overview

A legal counsel position is available in the Houston, Texas area. This role involves strategizing cases, exercising sound business judgment, and operating with a sense of urgency. The position requires handling legal work on assigned cases, particularly in insurance defense.

Responsibilities

  • Manage legal work on assigned cases.
  • Aggressively pursue files referred by the Claims Department.
  • Develop and maintain documented case strategies, including analysis of intangible factors such as judges, opposing counsel, and aggravating circumstances.
  • Organize and maintain document files including pleadings, briefs, and memorandums.
  • Prepare and submit timely status reports to claims handlers on significant activities, at intervals no greater than 60 days.
  • Ensure all case files are properly documented and organized.
  • Provide prompt and timely responses to telephone calls and correspondence.
  • Utilize case management software for notes, diary, calendar, billing, and other case-related activities in accordance with company guidelines and legal/ethical requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a trial attorney.
  • Experience handling insurance defense work is preferred.
  • Membership in the State Bar with all necessary licensing and continuing education requirements maintained.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must reside in the Houston, TX area and work remotely.
