Overview

A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking an experienced Bankruptcy/Litigation Paralegal. This role focuses on commercial bankruptcy matters and offers the option to work virtually or from any firm location.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys and trustees with fact investigation, legal research, document preparation, and production related to commercial bankruptcy cases.
  • Prepare Chapter 11 commercial bankruptcy cases, including first-day hearing materials such as pleadings, notices, PowerPoints, and demonstratives.
  • Manage databases, conduct internet and electronic research, and maintain project folders and electronic files.
  • Draft, process, and file bankruptcy-related documents.
  • Obtain credit reports and assist in writing Proofs of Claim.
  • Regularly review case documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare hearing notebooks containing motions, applications, notices, orders, and exhibits.
  • Assist with mailings related to bankruptcy cases.
  • Participate in internal continuing legal education (CLE) sessions.
  • Anticipate attorney needs and provide proactive support.
  • Mentor Paralegal Assistants or junior Paralegals as needed.
  • Stay informed about developments in the paralegal profession.
  • Utilize and implement legal AI technologies.
  • Meet an annual billable hour target of 1,500.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience working directly with commercial bankruptcy attorneys in a law firm or similar professional environment.
  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Significant substantive legal experience may be considered in lieu of formal education at the discretion of management.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is commensurate with skills, experience, location, and other legal factors. Expected salary ranges by location are:

  • California: $86,000 - $139,000
  • Colorado: $75,000 - $119,000
  • Illinois: $64,000 - $125,000
  • Maryland: $73,000 - $107,000
  • Massachusetts: $85,000 - $130,000
  • Minnesota: $75,000 - $111,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $78,000 - $114,000
  • New York: $66,000 - $125,000
  • Washington State: $88,000 - $134,000
  • Washington, DC: $94,000 - $138,000

This salary does not include discretionary bonuses, which are non-guaranteed and based on individual and firm performance.
