Overview

A legal team based in the Detroit area is seeking an attorney to join their staff counsel team, focusing on Bodily Injury/Uninsured Motorist (BI/UM) and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) cases. This is a remote position with occasional in-person appearances and trials as required. Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of insurance defense cases primarily of low complexity and exposure, from intake through resolution.
  • Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs.
  • Attend hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Communicate proactively with leadership regarding case handling opportunities and challenges.
  • Consult with the Claims Department on legal aspects of files.
  • Support senior attorneys on cases of greater complexity and exposure.
  • May serve as second chair in trials and handle trials involving minimal complexity and exposure.
  • Perform other duties to ensure efficient case management.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled office or virtually from an approved alternative location.
  • May require travel between offices, alternative work locations, and field sites.
  • Frequent sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
  • Occasional movement including navigating stairs, ramps, and uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally lift or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, mousing, and writing.
  • Ability to perform fine motor tasks and maintain clear vision and adequate hearing, with or without correction.

Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctor degree and licensed to practice law in applicable states required upon hire.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in civil litigation and/or personal/bodily injury cases preferred.
