Overview
This role is for an attorney licensed in Kansas to fill an 800-hour limited term position handling insurance defense matters primarily in the Kansas City area. A Missouri license is considered a plus.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients in insurance defense cases of low complexity and exposure.
- Manage all phases of cases from intake through resolution.
- Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs.
- Attend hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Communicate proactively with leadership regarding case handling opportunities and challenges.
- Consult with the Claims Department on legal aspects of files.
- Support senior attorneys on cases of greater complexity and exposure.
- May serve as second chair in trials and handle trials with minimal complexity.
- Perform other tasks to ensure efficient case management.
Physical Requirements
- Work performed in-person at an office or virtually at an approved alternative location.
- May include fieldwork with exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Frequently sit or stand for prolonged periods.
- Occasionally move about the workplace, including stairs and uneven surfaces.
- Occasionally lift or carry objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, mousing, and writing.
- Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and reaching.
- Adequate vision and hearing, with or without correction, to perform job duties safely and effectively.
- May require regular travel between offices, alternative work locations, and field sites.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in Kansas upon hire; Missouri license is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience in civil litigation and/or personal/bodily injury cases preferred.
