Overview

This role involves representing clients in insurance defense cases primarily of low complexity and exposure. The attorney will manage all phases of cases from intake through resolution, including preparation of pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs, as well as attending hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed. The position supports collaboration with claims departments and may include second chair trial work and developmental assignments on moderately complex cases.

This is a remote position open to candidates throughout California, with occasional in-person appearances and trials required.

Responsibilities

  • Litigate low complexity and exposure insurance defense cases from intake to trial or settlement.
  • Prepare legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and briefs.
  • Attend hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Communicate proactively with leadership regarding case handling opportunities and challenges.
  • Consult with Claims Department on legal aspects of files.
  • Support senior attorneys on cases of greater complexity.
  • Manage case workflow efficiently to meet deadlines and objectives.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in California upon hire.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in civil litigation and/or personal/bodily injury cases preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication, listening, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to function effectively in adversarial or confrontational situations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Demonstrated judgment, decision-making, time management, and priority-setting skills.
  • Proficient with technology to work efficiently in a virtual, paperless environment.

Physical and Work Environment

  • Work is primarily performed remotely with occasional in-person requirements.
  • May require travel between offices, alternative work locations, and field sites.
  • Work environment is typically indoors in climate-controlled offices; some outdoor exposure possible.
  • Physical demands include sitting or standing for prolonged periods, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and routine use of hands and fingers for typing and other tasks.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range for California: $102,450 - $174,240, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Annual bonus potential up to 15% of salary based on company and individual performance.
