Overview
An insurance group specializing in personal lines property and casualty insurance is seeking an Insurance Litigation Attorney licensed in California. This remote role involves managing a caseload of litigated and non-litigated files independently, providing legal advice, and mentoring junior attorneys.
Responsibilities
- Independently handle a variety of insurance litigation files, including complex legal matters.
- Prepare discovery, legal pleadings, trial briefs, and other litigation documents with input from claims specialists.
- Represent and advocate on behalf of the insurer and insured members in court and other legal proceedings.
- Conduct all phases of personal injury litigation, including jury trials, motions, and arbitration hearings.
- Travel as needed for depositions, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, trials, and occasional team meetings.
- Identify high-liability or complex issues and escalate to senior staff when appropriate.
Requirements
- Active license to practice law in California and in good standing with the California Bar.
- 5-8+ years of experience in insurance defense practice with courtroom and first or second chair trial experience.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Skilled in personal injury litigation, including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, and understanding the tri-partite relationship.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and online legal research tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with paralegals and support staff.
- Ability to think and act independently in the client’s best interest.
- Knowledge and appreciation of legal ethics.
