Overview

The organization is seeking an Insurance Litigation Attorney (CA License Required) – Remote to independently manage an inventory of litigated and non-litigated files and to advise and mentor less senior attorneys.

This role may be performed remotely anywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii and Alaska, provided candidates are actively licensed and in good standing with the California Bar.

Responsibilities

  • Independently handle an inventory of litigated and non-litigated files.
  • Advise and mentor less senior attorneys.
  • Apply independent analysis and judgment to prepare discovery, legal pleadings, and trial briefs, with close coordination and input from claims specialists.
  • Appear and advocate on behalf of the organization and member insureds.
  • Conduct all phases of personal injury litigation, including jury trials, motions, and arbitration hearings.
  • Manage assigned files across varying complexity and dollar values.
  • Handle complex legal matters or projects, including matters not in litigation.
  • Identify issues with major implications, high liability exposure, special circumstances, and/or departure from guidelines; refer to higher-level staff for review and possible assignment of additional resources.
  • Travel as appropriate for depositions, mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Gather occasionally in person with teams for certain meetings and events.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of experience in insurance defense practice, including courtroom and first or second chair trial experience.
  • Active California license to practice law required; must be in good standing with the California Bar.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with assigned paralegal(s) and support staff.
  • Requires a law degree.
  • Skilled in personal injury litigation, including liability assessment, causation, damages, and the tri-partite relationship.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and timely manner.
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and online research tools.
  • Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively, and effectively.
  • Ability to think and act independently in a client’s best interest.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of legal ethics.

Preferred Qualifications

Open to litigation attorney levels 1–3; leveling will be determined through the interview process.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Total compensation includes a location-based compensation structure.
  • Starting pay range across all states where the organization hires: $150,480 – $200,000.
  • Opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus through the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP): 8–12% of eligible pay.

Colorado Specific Job Range: $117,000 – $185,000

Location

  • Remote anywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii and Alaska.
  • California Bar licensure required.
  • Travel is required as appropriate for depositions, mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, arbitrations, trials, and occasional in-person team meetings.
