Overview

This is a remote, work-from-home Internal Counsel position, ideally based in the Eastern or Central Time zones. Some travel will be required for client meetings, internal meetings, conferences, and other events.

The organization has experienced significant growth and now operates globally across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia. With over 300 employees worldwide, the legal needs have become increasingly complex. This role serves as the primary in-house legal resource focusing on contracts, with occasional support for compliance, data privacy, and HR-related legal matters.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end client contract process, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating client services agreements aligned with business and client needs.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to negotiate non-standard contract terms.
  • Serve as the primary legal contact for vendor agreements, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable international, federal, and state regulations.
  • Assess vendor contracts for data privacy and security standards, including data processing, cross-border transfers, and confidentiality obligations.
  • Handle routine disputes and legal inquiries, providing practical guidance to internal teams.
  • Coordinate with external counsel on complex legal issues and manage legal correspondence related to disputes.
  • Advise the People team on employment-related legal questions, compliance, policies, and employee relations, escalating complex matters as needed.
  • Support corporate governance activities, including drafting company resolutions and coordinating entity management and filings.
  • Maintain accurate contract records, monitor timelines, manage renewals and extensions, and ensure legal documents are accurate and clearly communicated.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active bar membership (or retired in good standing).
  • Minimum of 8 years of legal experience with significant expertise in contract law.
  • Prior in-house or agency/services industry experience preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with data protection and privacy matters such as GDPR, cross-border data transfers, and data processing agreements.
  • Experience advising on employment and HR legal matters is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Comfortable handling international contracts and multi-jurisdictional legal considerations.
  • Ability to operate independently with sound judgment on when to escalate issues.
  • Highly organized, deadline-driven, and capable of working effectively in a remote environment.

  • Practical, business-oriented legal approach balancing risk and commercial objectives.
  • Ability to translate complex legal language into clear guidance for non-legal colleagues.
  • Experience working with distributed teams and managing multiple priorities.

Success Milestones

  • Within 3 months: Full understanding of existing contract library, processes, and active agreements; integrated with sales and people teams; independently handling routine contracts.
  • Within 6 months: Recognized as a trusted legal resource managing all contracts, advising on disputes and HR matters without escalation, contributing to process improvements, and proactively identifying legal risks.

  • Target base salary range: $160,000 to $180,000 plus bonus, depending on location and experience.
