Overview

A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Knowledge Management & Innovation (KMI) Attorney to drive business transformation and operational efficiency within its Intellectual Property Practice Service Center (PSC). This role focuses on developing and implementing innovative legal technology solutions, optimizing client service delivery, and streamlining business processes. The position may be filled remotely or at any firm location.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary knowledge management and innovation liaison to the Intellectual Property PSC.
  • Lead and advise the PSC on technology-driven improvements and process optimization.
  • Act as a subject matter expert fostering collaboration between knowledge management, IT, and practice teams to evaluate and implement innovative solutions, including AI tools.
  • Identify, assess, and pilot new and existing legal technology tools based on PSC needs.
  • Prototype and demonstrate technology solutions such as AI and document automation platforms.
  • Capture and relay user feedback to enhance knowledge management solutions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Champion technology adoption and organizational change to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Support pilots, beta tests, and business development initiatives promoting knowledge management programs and innovative practices.
  • Develop and deliver training, workshops, and support materials to drive user engagement and adoption.
  • Plan, execute, and track knowledge management and innovation projects aligned with firm goals and return on investment.
  • Monitor legal technology trends and participate in relevant industry events.
  • Develop and refine document automation prototypes, ensuring integration with databases and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Implement customization features and feedback mechanisms for continuous tool improvement.
  • Conduct live demonstrations, pilot programs, and share success stories to illustrate value and drive adoption of legal technology tools.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and a 4-year degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a practicing attorney or in knowledge management/innovation within professional services.
  • Proven experience with legal technology, project management, and business planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with diverse teams and explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive and innovative mindset.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is commensurate with skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. Expected salary ranges by location are:

  • California: $151,000 - $308,000
  • Colorado: $139,000 - $248,000
  • Illinois: $136,000 - $265,000
  • Maryland: $146,000 - $222,000
  • Massachusetts: $151,000 - $289,000
  • Minnesota: $151,000 - $250,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $164,000 - $297,000
  • New York: $141,000 - $304,000
  • Vermont: $149,000 - $286,000
  • Washington: $146,000 - $278,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $195,000 - $286,000

These salaries do not include discretionary bonuses, which are non-guaranteed and based on individual and firm performance.
