Overview

A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Knowledge Management & Innovation (KMI) Attorney to support its Intellectual Property Practice Service Center (PSC). This role focuses on driving business transformation and operational efficiency by developing and implementing innovative legal technology solutions aligned with strategic objectives. The position may be filled remotely or at any firm location.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Intellectual Property PSC, Knowledge Management (KM) team, and firm leadership.
  • Lead identification and implementation of technology-driven improvements and process optimizations within the PSC.
  • Act as a subject matter expert fostering collaboration among KM, IT, and practice teams to evaluate and deploy innovative solutions, including AI tools.
  • Identify, assess, and pilot new and existing legal technology tools based on PSC needs.
  • Prototype and demonstrate technology solutions such as AI and document automation platforms.
  • Collect and communicate user feedback to enhance KM solutions and promote continuous improvement.
  • Champion technology adoption and organizational change to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Support pilots, beta tests, and business development initiatives to advance the firm’s KM program and innovative practices.
  • Develop and deliver training, workshops, and support materials to increase user engagement and adoption.
  • Plan, execute, and monitor KM and innovation projects ensuring alignment with firm goals and return on investment.
  • Document, track, and report project progress in collaboration with the KM Project Management Team.
  • Monitor legal technology trends and participate in relevant industry events.
  • Develop and refine document automation prototypes, ensuring integration with databases and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Implement customization features and feedback mechanisms for continuous tool improvement.
  • Conduct live demonstrations and pilot programs to illustrate value and drive adoption of KM-developed tools and AI technologies.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and a 4-year degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a practicing attorney or in knowledge management/innovation within professional services.
  • Proven experience with legal technology, project management, and business planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams and lead organizational change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with diverse teams and explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive and innovative approach.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is commensurate with skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. Expected salary ranges by location are:

  • California: $151,000 - $308,000
  • Colorado: $139,000 - $248,000
  • Illinois: $136,000 - $265,000
  • Maryland: $146,000 - $222,000
  • Massachusetts: $151,000 - $289,000
  • Minnesota: $151,000 - $250,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $164,000 - $297,000
  • New York: $141,000 - $304,000
  • Vermont: $149,000 - $286,000
  • Washington: $146,000 - $278,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $195,000 - $286,000

These salaries do not include discretionary bonuses, which are non-guaranteed and based on individual and firm performance.
