Overview

An established law firm is seeking an experienced Lateral Litigation Attorney to join its growing litigation practice. The firm represents clients in high-stakes, complex litigation throughout West Virginia and beyond. This position offers remote work flexibility for the right candidate, with occasional travel to the Charleston office required. The role involves working collaboratively with accomplished litigators across offices in Charleston, Morgantown, and Wheeling.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a sophisticated litigation caseload from inception through resolution.
  • Handle all phases of litigation including pre-suit investigations, pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and appeals.
  • Draft and review complex legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and correspondence.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and develop strategic litigation approaches.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials.
  • Provide practical legal counsel and maintain regular communication with clients throughout the litigation process.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice areas to develop innovative litigation strategies.
  • Contribute to firm growth through exceptional client service, business development, and professional networking.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the West Virginia State Bar or ability to obtain admission promptly.
  • Significant litigation experience with demonstrated success handling complex matters.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Commercial Litigation
    • Insurance Defense
    • Product Liability
    • Medical Malpractice
    • Mass Litigation
    • Other complex civil litigation
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Experience managing all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, and dispositive motion practice.
  • Strong organizational and case management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, staff, and clients.

Location

Offices located in Charleston, Morgantown, and Wheeling, West Virginia. Remote work is available with occasional travel to the Charleston office required.
