Overview
This is a full-time remote position based in New York in the Legal department.
The role involves serving as the firm’s first lawyer advising banks, funds, and insurers out of New York. Work includes regulatory, transactional, and advisory matters where judgment is required (non-contentious by design, with litigation also possible). You will also help productize legal work by turning matters into reusable, AI-native services.
Responsibilities
- Advise banks, asset managers, funds, and insurers on regulatory, transactional, and structuring questions across US and cross-border mandates
- Own matters end-to-end, including scoping, analysis, memos, documentation, negotiation, and regulator-facing work
- Act as a trusted counterpart to general counsel, heads of compliance, and in-house teams
- Turn each matter into a reusable, AI-native service (analysis, precedents, and decision logic)
- Collaborate with engineers to build tooling that performs the work with you
- Establish quality standards and review processes to make AI-produced legal work defensible
- Help stand up the New York practice, including structure, intake, precedent library, and engagement terms
- Develop the client base with the founders from first conversation to signed mandate
- Bring in and mentor lawyers who follow you
Requirements
- Admitted to the New York bar, with a clean disciplinary record
- Several years at a leading US firm or in-house at a bank, fund, or insurer, with real ownership of financial-sector matters
- Deep experience in at least one of:
- banking and financial regulation
- funds and asset management
- insurance regulatory
- structured products
- financial transactions
- Advisory and transactional by temperament
- Commercial judgment—ability to identify what the client actually needs and price and scope accordingly
- Entrepreneurial drive to build a firm from the first mandate
- Native/fluent English and based in or moving to New York
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing relationships with general counsels or compliance leadership at banks, funds, or insurers
- Cross-border experience with European financial institutions
- Experience building with AI (e.g., automation, agents, workflows), not only using it
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $250K – $450K (New York)
- Bonus: Offers bonus
