Overview

This role involves building a new personal injury legal practice from the ground up. The organization is scaling its existing legal operations and is seeking a founding attorney who will own legal operations end to end—selecting cases, setting case strategy, and representing clients from intake through resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Directly represent severely injured clients in pre-litigation negotiation, mediation, or trial.
  • Manage case strategy and case selection, including determining which matters the practice will take on.
  • Represent clients from intake through resolution.
  • Oversee legal operations across intake and case management.
  • Supervise a team of attorney and non-attorney professionals supporting intake and case management.
  • Partner cross-functionally with internal teams (including product and operations) to help set standards for after-hours phone support and case-handling protocols, including for high-value matters.

Requirements

  • Deep personal injury experience at a plaintiff's firm, ideally across motor vehicle accidents and premises liability.
  • Experience representing clients through every stage of a case, including taking cases to trial.
  • Strong knowledge of legal operations at a plaintiff's firm, including where the standard playbook falls short, and the ability to improve processes from a blank page.
  • Experience supervising non-attorney professionals across intake, case management, and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a scrappy, fast-moving startup environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to doing good and helping people.
  • Based in California and licensed to practice law here.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A network of injury attorneys for referrals, co-counsel relationships, and general advice.
  • Experience or familiarity with marketing operations of a plaintiff's firm and an understanding of marketing and intake economics.
  • Existing relationships or referral channels that could generate cases.
  • Thoughtful experience starting a legal practice, or experience working in a startup or other fast-paced, agile environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated base salary band: $170,000 to $230,000, plus equity and benefits.
  • Medical and dental insurance with 100% of employees and their families premiums covered.
  • 15 vacation days and ~20 paid holidays each year (including two weeks at end-of-year).
  • Free membership to OneMedical.
  • $600/year internet stipend.
  • $1,000 reimbursable stipend for education and training outside of work.
  • Up to $1,200/year student loan repayment assistance.
  • 401(k) and optional HSA/FSA.

Location

  • Based in California; licensed here and building the first injury practice in this market.
  • Day to day is remote, with travel to LA to meet with colleagues, plus offsites and retreats. (Travel is covered.)
