Overview

An AI research and product company is seeking an experienced Product Counsel to join their Legal Team. This role involves providing legal guidance to support the development and launch of advanced AI products, focusing on areas such as product design, AI safety and governance, privacy, intellectual property, content and platform policies, and commercialization strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Growth, Research, Privacy, Security, and Safety teams to provide pragmatic legal advice throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Advise on product features, user flows, marketing initiatives, and data practices.
  • Draft and review user-facing terms, privacy policies, disclosures, and marketing materials to ensure compliance while maintaining a high-quality user experience.
  • Support incident response, privacy risk assessments, and escalation processes related to product use.
  • Monitor global legal and regulatory developments impacting AI systems and translate them into practical internal policies and guidance.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree with active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (New York preferred).
  • Minimum of 6 years of product counseling and privacy experience, preferably including both law firm and in-house roles, with strong preference for in-house product counseling experience.
  • Experience advising on AI models and products, and working closely with Trust & Safety teams.
  • Expertise in laws and regulations relevant to AI products and SaaS solutions, including privacy, data protection, consumer protection, content policies, and emerging AI-specific legislation.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills to support cross-functional teams and engage with external partners.
  • Genuine interest in AI, privacy, and emerging technologies, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment, working independently and handling ambiguity.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of AI-related legal developments and industry trends.
  • Experience working in a high-velocity, autonomous team environment.
