Overview

The organization is seeking a Legal Associate to support the Legal Team with administrative and operational functions that help protect the organization’s interests and mitigate risk. This role performs document review and processing, bankruptcy-related support, and other legal assistance tasks. Success requires strong attention to detail, analytical and numerical skills, and the ability to accurately process high volumes of information.

This position is remote.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve and redact personal identifiable information from documents in preparation for filing with the court system.
  • Review incoming levies and garnishments and freeze funds in accounts immediately upon receipt.
  • Manage the estate/probate claims process, including:
    • Filing claims and satisfactions
    • Reviewing accounts with filed claims
    • Coordinating correspondence with estate counsel or the personal representative to settle the claim
  • Review incoming subpoenas issued to the organization, prepare required documents, and submit them to the requesting authority.
  • Process and code new Bankruptcy filings in all applicable programs, ensuring:
    • The organization’s interests are protected
    • Appropriate processes continue in a timely manner upon termination of the stay
    • Bankruptcy status is determined
    • Internal department applications are utilized
    • Loans are moved to the next stage in the process
    • Required documents and correspondence are prepared and sent to attorneys
  • Verify critical dates and review electronic court docket updates, including making appropriate notes and follow-ups.
  • Respond to phone calls, internal requests, and written correspondence from all parties involved in legal matters.

Requirements

  • Remote position.
  • Associate’s degree or commensurate experience (Required).
  • 3+ years of experience in a legal field or financial institution (Required).
  • Excellent verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills (Required).
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy (Required).
  • Proficient computer skills, including intermediate Excel skills, with the ability to navigate among several system applications and software programs (Required).
