Overview
A rapidly growing biotechnology organization is seeking a self-motivated Legal Counsel to support increasing business demands. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation, contract drafting, and analytical skills, with prior in-house legal, clinical operations, or procurement experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry. This role involves collaborating with legal and business teams on a wide range of contract types, managing a high volume of agreements efficiently, and serving as a trusted legal advisor.
Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate, and manage a variety of contracts including master service agreements, statements of work, amendments, clinical trial agreements, confidentiality agreements, and consulting agreements throughout the lifecycle of studies.
- Evaluate legal and contractual risks and escalate issues according to company policies.
- Provide practical, solution-oriented legal support to business functions such as research and development, procurement, finance, manufacturing, and information technology.
- Ensure contract terms comply with applicable laws and regulations and accurately reflect organizational intent and strategy.
- Train and educate business teams on contract templates, legal issues, and best contracting practices.
- Assist in implementing new contract policies and procedures.
- Lead and participate in special projects and drive organizational change as needed.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to develop contracting approaches for new business strategies.
- Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and contract matters to support negotiations and business decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and current good standing admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
- Minimum of 3 years of prior in-house experience within a legal department, clinical operations, or procurement in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company is strongly preferred.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work across global time zones.
- Working knowledge of healthcare laws, pharmaceutical regulations, and ability to interpret and apply them to business activities and contracts.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work independently, managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to handle confidential and proprietary information with discretion.
- Self-motivated, reliable, responsive, and flexible to accept new responsibilities.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $120,800 to $160,800 annually.
- Compensation packages are determined based on job-related skills, experience, certifications, education, and work location.
- Eligibility for annual bonus or incentive compensation plans depending on role.
