Overview
A leading online sports betting and gaming organization is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide legal and commercial advice related to partnerships and agreements. This role involves negotiating, drafting, and reviewing commercial contracts while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The position reports to the Associate General Counsel and requires independent operation with accountability over assigned responsibilities.
This role can be based in Jersey City, New Jersey, or performed remotely.
Responsibilities
- Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts including payment processing agreements, vendor agreements (MSAs/SOWs for marketing, technology, data, and intellectual property), use license agreements, market access agreements, partnership agreements, sponsorship agreements, affiliate agreements, and promotions (sweepstakes, contests).
- Draft and customize key contract clauses and create bespoke agreements for unique business transactions.
- Utilize AI-enabled tools to efficiently review and draft agreements and provide timely, data-informed legal guidance.
- Collaborate with business partners to lead negotiations with partners, suppliers, and affiliates across multiple business functions.
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain an organized executed contract repository using the company’s contract management system.
- Assess risks and apply sound business and legal judgment to respond to inquiries, make decisions, and negotiate deals.
- Provide well-reasoned legal advice and practical solutions to complex issues, inspiring confidence among business partners.
- Proactively identify and advise on legal issues arising from commercial relationships.
- Support and advise various business units including product, technology, sports betting and gaming operations, marketing, finance, and human resources on contractual and commercial matters.
- Participate in team projects and initiatives to improve commercial legal processes, update contract templates, and drive adoption of contract management tools.
- Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and strong advocacy skills while maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
- Coordinate with other attorneys in the legal department to provide cross-functional legal input.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Associate General Counsel.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
- Minimum of three years as a licensed attorney with progressive experience in contract review and negotiation.
- Experience in a top-tier law firm and/or equivalent in-house legal experience.
- Preferred experience includes working in-house, regulated industries, or negotiating technology services, software, and SaaS transactions.
- Gaming license registration as required by applicable jurisdictions.
- Strong knowledge of legal principles related to contract drafting and negotiation, legal research, and sound legal recommendations.
- Basic proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with contract management tools preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $135,000 to $170,000, dependent on geography, skills, education, experience, and qualifications.
- Eligibility for a performance-based bonus plan.
