Overview
A leading education technology organization is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support its international expansion and global privacy and compliance programs. This role involves partnering with cross-functional teams including Finance, Product, Marketing, Sales, and People to build and manage compliance initiatives, particularly related to GDPR and other international regulations. The position offers the opportunity to lead legal efforts during a pivotal growth phase.
Responsibilities
- Review new product features for compliance with GDPR and other digital regulations
- Collaborate with Marketing to approve global promotional materials
- Provide legal support and strategic guidance to account executives managing global client relationships
- Maintain and update internal data mappings, risk assessments, and records of processing activities
- Develop and implement risk assessments for AI product features
- Advise on legal risks, costs, and benefits related to establishing entities in foreign jurisdictions
- Educate teams on privacy compliance best practices and foster a culture of compliance
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar membership in good standing, or eligibility to become barred or registered in-house counsel in the state of employment
- Minimum 3 years of experience in privacy and product counseling
- At least 2 years of experience supporting corporate, contracting, and/or employment matters outside the United States
- Proven ability to manage complex compliance programs
- Strong skills in managing multiple stakeholders and contributing to cross-functional projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the education technology or education sector
- Prior in-house legal experience, including working with sales and product teams
- Deep familiarity with privacy laws, especially GDPR
- General knowledge of employment law, international corporate governance, intellectual property, and commercial contracting
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and provide practical, timely legal solutions across departments
- Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of building effective working relationships
- Proactive problem-solver with confidence, maturity, and a positive attitude
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary range:
- $183,000 to $215,000 for candidates outside NYC and San Francisco
- $201,000 to $236,500 for candidates in NYC and San Francisco

This role is based in the United States with flexibility regarding location. Bar membership or eligibility must correspond to the state where the role is located.
