Overview

A growing network of specialty and emergency veterinary hospitals is seeking a Legal Counsel to serve as a strategic advisor and legal partner. The organization supports operations across five states and is committed to exceptional care and a collaborative culture. This role involves guiding leadership through complex legal matters and supporting business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead contract negotiations with vendors, partners, and service providers.
  • Draft, review, and revise legal agreements including employment contracts, NDAs, and service agreements.
  • Ensure contracts comply with regulations and align with organizational goals.
  • Provide legal counsel on employment law matters across NY, CO, NJ, CA, and NV.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and update internal policies proactively.
  • Support HR and operations in resolving employee relations issues and investigations.
  • Collaborate with C-level executives and cross-functional teams to align legal strategy with business objectives.
  • Advise on union prevention, audit compliance, and risk management initiatives.
  • Influence senior leadership with clear, strategic legal guidance.
  • Anticipate legal challenges and develop proactive solutions.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to support shared goals.
  • Maintain a service-oriented approach in support of teammates, clients, and the veterinary community.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in at least one of the following states: NY, CO, NJ, CA, NV.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in corporate law, emphasizing contract negotiation and employment law.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-state legal matters.
  • Experience in healthcare, veterinary, or multi-site operations preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership and collaborate across departments.

Schedule & Location

  • Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, adaptable to business needs.
  • Fully remote position with some travel required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $200,000 to $225,000 plus an annual discretionary bonus.
